Etta and the Wobbly Wombat of Worry

First Day of School Stories

Once upon a time, in a town where socks danced and spaghetti sang, there lived a brave little girl named Etta. Etta had a brand new red backpack that was so shiny, it could make the sun squint! But there was one thing Etta disliked more than broccoli ice cream: saying goodbye at the school gate. With a heart full of butterflies, Etta stood at the gate, clutching her backpack like it was a life raft on a sea of uncertainty.

As she stepped inside the school, she was greeted by a sight so ridiculous that even the grumpiest of cats would chuckle. There were children dressed as superheroes, a boy wearing a sandwich hat, and a teacher juggling three rubber chickens! But Etta’s eyes were fixed on the villain of the day—Billy the Bully, who was known for his mean scowls and a collection of sticky gum.

Etta gulped. What if he took her new backpack? Or worse, what if he made her cry like a baby walrus? Just as she was about to turn around and sprint back home, she remembered her mom’s words: "Bravery is not the absence of fear, but the courage to face it!"

With a deep breath, Etta marched into the classroom. Just then, a loud *SPLAT!* echoed through the air. Billy the Bully had accidentally slipped on a banana peel and landed right in front of her! His face was covered in gooey banana and his eyes were wide with shock. The whole class erupted in laughter, and Etta couldn’t help but giggle too.

"Maybe he’s not so scary after all," she thought. Etta decided to be brave like a lion with a very fluffy mane. She walked over to Billy, who was now attempting to stand up but kept slipping on the banana peel. "Need a hand?" she asked, trying to stifle her giggles.

Billy, still a little stunned, nodded. With a swift tug, Etta helped him up. Just then, the principal, a tall man with a mustache like a walrus, entered the room. "What’s going on here?" he boomed, his voice shaking the windows.

"Etta just saved Billy from the Banana of Doom!" shouted a girl with pigtails, as the class erupted in applause. Etta felt her cheeks turn as red as her backpack. She had done it! She was brave!

But then, the twist came! As everyone cheered, Billy turned to Etta with a grin that was wider than a pizza. "Thanks for helping me! I was just trying to be cool! Want to be friends?" Etta’s heart raced. Was this the same Billy who had terrified her moments ago?

Just as Etta was about to answer, the classroom door swung open, and in walked a giant, fluffy wombat wearing a tutu! "I’m Wally the Wobbly Wombat, and I need your help to save the school from the Terrible Tummy Ticklers!"

Etta looked at Billy, who looked at her, and together they gasped. The adventure was just beginning! And as they set off to save the day with their new friend Wally, Etta realized that being brave wasn’t just about facing fears, but also about making new friends along the way.

And so, with a belly full of giggles and a heart full of courage, Etta knew this was just the start of their hilarious adventures. What would happen next? Would they defeat the Terrible Tummy Ticklers? Only time would tell!
